To remain an active member of this chapter, each Colonel is encouraged to make an annual contribution to the HOKC (Louisville Headquarters) Good Works Program in an amount of their choosing.

If you do not currently have a membership card for this year, you may obtain one using the link provided below or by contacting the office at 502.266.6848.

The Lexington chapter was created specifically as a hub for Colonels. Now, it offers a structured way to:

    

  • Connect with fellow Colonels across the local community
  • Contribute to meaningful and lasting good works
  • Help strengthen and uplift the community


What we do:

  • Support charitable organizations and community enhancement in Lexington and Central Kentucky.


  • Provide regular volunteer opportunities for Kentucky Colonels who want to stay active locally.


  • Build camaraderie among Colonels through service and social events.

Requirements for Membership

To join the Lexington chapter, you must:


1. Be a Commissioned Kentucky Colonel

You must already hold a Kentucky Colonel commission.


2. Be “Active” with HOKC Headquarters (Louisville)

  • You are considered active when you make a monetary donation of your choice to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels – Good Works Program yearly.
  • If it has been one year or more since your last contribution, simply make a new donation to reactivate your status.
  • Headquarters will issue an updated membership card with your name and commission ID.
  • The Lexington chapter requires an updated copy of this card each year to maintain your membership.


Chapter Application

  • A one‑time Membership Request Application is required.
  • There is no fee for this application.
  • This form adds you to the chapter’s internal database.

Annual dues: $50

  • Financial stability

Benefits of Paying Annual Membership Dues

Members who contribute annual membership dues receive:


  • Attendance at four annual membership meetings
  • Participation in chapter‑ or HOKC‑sanctioned social events
  • Participation in Days of Service
  • Voting rights within the chapter
  • Eligibility to run for or hold Board of Directors positions
  • Opportunities to serve on committees
  • Access to the private Facebook group
  • Access to the Members‑Only section of the website
  • A chapter‑specific lanyard and name badge
  • Discounts on chapter merchandise (when available)
  • Continued inclusion in the chapter database and email communications


*NEW chapter members qualify for a one-time pro-rated membership payment at the time that they begin their membership. Our fiscal calendar year begins on January 01 and ends on December 31.

Our Commitment

The Thoroughbred Chapter of HOKC, Inc. is a Kentucky nonprofit corporation and an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to serving communities throughout Central Kentucky through charitable giving, volunteer Service, and nonprofit partnerships.

We believe transparency, accountability, integrity, and responsible stewardship are essential to maintaining the trust of our members, donors, volunteers, and the public.

Financial Transparency

Membership Dues

Membership dues are used solely for chapter administrative and operational expenses, including:

  • Meeting venue rental 
  • Website hosting and domain      registration 
  • Printing and office supplies 
  • Banking and administrative      expenses 
  • Event support and chapter      operations 

Membership dues are not designated as charitable donations.

Charitable Donations

Funds specifically donated for charitable purposes are maintained separately and are reviewed by the Board of Directors before distribution.

Charitable contributions may be used to support:

  • Qualified nonprofit organizations      
  • Community service projects 
  • Disaster relief efforts 
  • Humanitarian assistance      initiatives 
  • Other charitable purposes      consistent with our mission 

  

Donation Review Process

Before approving a charitable donation, the Chapter may:

✓ Verify nonprofit status

✓ Review publicly available information

✓ Evaluate organizational needs

✓ Assess community impact

✓ Confirm mission alignment

✓ Communicate directly with organizational leadership

All charitable donations are reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors.

  

Governance

The Chapter is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors responsible for:

  • Financial oversight 
  • Policy development 
  • Strategic planning 
  • Compliance and governance 
  • Approval of charitable donations 

No Board member receives compensation for serving on the Board.

The Thoroughbred Chapter of HOKC, Inc. is a Kentucky-based 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to strengthening communities throughout Lexington, Central Kentucky, and the surrounding region.
