The Thoroughbred Chapter of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels was established in Lexington, Kentucky and charted on May 6, 2024. The inspiration of a few Colonels come to light in order to expand the HOKC organization (Good Works Program) and to bring commissioned Colonels together in Service and Camaraderie.

The commission of Kentucky Colonel is the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky.
It is in recognition of an individual’s noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to our community, state and nation.

The first chapters of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels were established in the 1960s. While the organization itself was founded in 1931, the formal chapter structure with the goal of networking and enhancing the organization's mission was developed later. Chapters provide opportunities for Colonels to connect locally, network, and strengthen their bond with the organization.
The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, as an organization, was established in 1931. It was originally created by Governor Ruby Laffoon as a state order of merit. In 1957, it was incorporated as a non-profit organization dedicated to charitable work in Kentucky. The first chapters, providing a more formalized structure for members, were developed in the 1960s.
