Come and enjoy a day with your fellow Kentucky Colonels at Keeneland Racecourse on Sunday, April 19th, 2026. The races start at 1pm. We will have a tent area set up. Please bring a chair and an appetizer or dish to share. There are betting booths in the area if you want to place a bet on a horse. Bets are placed in CASH ONLY.
Take the main entrance for Keeneland at the intersection of Man O' War and Versailles Road. Follow the directions to the parking field on the hill on the right. Look for Colonel flags above a tent and other colonels.
Since open flames aren’t allowed, grills are off the table. As alternatives, we could consider options like KFC, Lee’s Chicken, or any of the many local spots in the area. We can also keep things simple with lunch meats, chips and dips, salads, coleslaw, potato salad, fresh veggies, and fruit and so on. Bring your own beverages.
1. The first race begins at 1 PM. Many of us will gather earlier than 1 PM. The gates open 2 hours before the first race. The last race is usually around 5:30 PM. It depends on how many races are on the card. No set time. This event is one where you can come and leave as you please.
2. Is there a list for what people are bringing. No. While there may be some duplications, this is a very casual event, and it would be difficult to monitor what people want to bring. I understand there are food trucks in case the food is not sufficient.
3. Parking fees? No. Free parking.
4. Dress code? No. Be comfortable. Perhaps high heels would not be prudent because this is a grassy field. If it rains, there will be mud.
5. Attendance? We chose not to do an RSVP. This is a very casual event. I would just suggest bringing a dish to share that will be sufficient for maybe a dozen people.
7. Cutoff limit? No.
Just random thoughts <<< Gonna be a Great time!!!!

Come join your fellow Colonels for a special day trip to Louisville and Frankfort!
On Tuesday, May 19th, 2026, we will begin our journey with a tour of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels National Headquarters in Louisville, followed by a group lunch. Afterward, we will travel to Frankfort for a private tour of the Buffalo Trace Distillery, led by our very own chapter member, Colonel Fred Mozenter.
To make travel easy and enjoyable, we are taking a 15‑passenger van. Seating is limited and will be filled on a first‑come, first‑served basis. The cost of the van and fuel will be divided equally among all attendees. Lunch will be at your own expense, while both the headquarters tour and the distillery tour are complimentary.
This is a prepaid reservation of $20 per person, with no refunds being provided in the event that you must cancel. This fee has been averaged out per person to cover the van rental and fuel cost.
We look forward to sharing this memorable day of fellowship, history, and Kentucky tradition with you.
NOTE:
📍 Meeting Location: We’ll meet and park in the Southland Christian Church lot closest to Home Depot at 2349 Richmond Rd.
⏰ Arrival & Departure: Please plan to arrive no later than 9:45 AM. We will be departing promptly at 10:00 AM.
🕒 Duration: The outing should last about 8 hours, with an expected return to Lexington by 6:00 PM.

Patio season is here! Come join your fellow Colonels for an evening on the patio of Merrick Inn on Sunday, May 17, 2026 from 5 - 7 PM. Merrick Inn has a beautiful patio and hopefully the weather will be gorgeous. They do have a covered area and if necessary, we could go to their indoor bar. But THINK POSITIVE! Merrick Inn has a nice menu for appetizers or dinner.
Prices start at $16 and most entrees are in the $30 range. We hope to see you in May!
